South Western Railway (SWR) has issued an update following travel disruption yesterday that saw trains delayed and cancelled following a signalling problem between Brockenhurst and Eastleigh.
Described by disgruntled passengers as “carnage” and “chaos,” hundreds of passengers were left stranded outside Eastleigh train station after being left unable to make their way to Southampton Central.
This morning, in a statement on X a spokesperson for SWR confirmed that trains are now running normally following the signalling fault.

The spokesperson said: “Trains are now running normally following a signalling problem between Brockenhurst and Eastleigh and there should be no further delays to your journey.”
They added: “If you were delayed by 15 minutes or more, you may be entitled to claim compensation.”
Among those stuck in the disruption were cruise passengers Chris Martin and his wife who had travelled down from London.
Chris told the Echo: “On the train from London a few stops ago everyone was told that due to a signal issue they would need to disembark the train at Eastleigh if they are trying to get to Southampton, it’s just chaos.”
