Police officers and a dog unit have been spotted at an Asda petrol garage in Southampton.

Residents in Hedge End and Botley spotted officers with a dog unit at the Asda petrol garage on Grange Road.

Hampshire Police said that a 21-year-old from Southampton tried to evade officers after a proactive drug search on his vehicle.

The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and remains in police custody.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers conducting proactive vehicle-stop checks in the Botley area today, Monday June 24, have arrested a 21-year-old from Southampton on suspicion of drug supply offences.

“It comes after he attempted to evade officers on foot after his vehicle was stopped on Grange Road in Botley at around 1.40pm.

“The man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and remains in custody at this time.”
