Dear Sidney Yankson - Welcome to Southampton.

It used to be a well-respected city, but, as is always the case, city councillors have, over the years, destroyed the people's culture and replaced it with a student culture, especially this Labour council.

It has seen fit to create road congestion in practically every district with road works done on a whim and fancy by the open cheque book-financed Balfour Beatty: roads blocked off, stupid one-way systems, unused cycle lanes, and unnecessary 20mph limits in areas that do not need them.

The people's culture was the ice rink, annual carnival, the Lido, speedway, greyhound racing, the Southampton Show, hot air balloons, the Tall Ships race, Kingsland Square Market, the Royal Pier and Pavilion.

The Westquay project has destroyed small businesses, a Titanic and Spitfire tribute that is shamed by Belfast and Liverpool.

There is no council-built accommodation for people on low incomes, only accommodation for asylum seekers, illegal or otherwise.

The list is unending. Mr Yankson, I have the right to criticise the failings of the councillors. I have lived and voted all my life in Southampton.

You have not earned the right to criticise anybody, especially one particular councillor.

My opinion about you is that you are a fly-by-night character. You have no allegiance to Southampton, and you are still a London city councillor.

The Tories' choice of you instead of a local candidate—I think they have shot themselves in the foot by ill judgment.

You are just a cheeky chappie.

I have no allegiance to any of the main parties. We need change. We need UK Reform to upset the apple cart.
