Fans have reacted to the cancellation of Paloma Faith's concert due to take place in Southampton on Friday night.

Chart topping pop singer Paloma Faith announced she would be cancelling her scheduled gig at Southampton Summer Sessions after “suffering from exhaustion and catching various illnesses” from her children which has severely affected her voice.

Thousands of music lovers have enjoyed Tom Jones, Madness, and Nile Rodgers and Chic at the series of gigs at Guildhall Square in recent days.

Disappointed concert goers flocked to social media upon hearing the news.

One fan, Billie Marie Petrie, said: “So gutted, wanted to see her so bad.”

Catherine Murphy added: “That’s a shame, was looking forward to seeing Paloma.”

Carol Penman added that it was “a bit short notice to cancel”.

The singer of Only Love Can Hurt Like This, Cry on the Dance Floor, and Picking Up the Pieces, is due to take to the stage at Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage on Sunday evening, though there has been no confirmation that any other upcoming concerts will be affected.

In a statement to fans, Paloma Faith said: “I have sought advice from medical professionals, they have advised that I need to rest my voice and that means I've had to cancel tonight's show.

“I'm so sorry to everyone who bought tickets, I've loved being on the road and seeing all your gorgeous faces and I'm gutted I won't be dancing with you tonight.”

Bradley Stacey was another music fan who had a ticket for Paloma Faith’s Summer Sessions show, he told the Echo: “I was very disappointed to hear that tonight’s concert has been cancelled.

“I hope it can be rescheduled in the future.”

Organisers of Southampton Summer Sessions have assured ticket holders will be issued a full refund within seven days.

The final two headliners of the three-week long music festival in Guildhall Square – Loyle Carner and Kaiser Chiefs – are still scheduled to go to plan this weekend.

The Summer Sessions have attracted big names within the music industry to the city, with Tom Jones, Madness, Nile Rodgers and Chic – supported by Sophie Ellis-Bextor – Placebo, and Air all headlining the event.
