Thousands descended on Southampton City Centre at the weekend as a range of supercars were put on show outside Westquay.

Car enthusiasts, shoppers and residents all attended on Saturday as the impressive display was set up at Western Esplanade.

Cars in the Square saw several supercars and hypercars on display including McLarens, Bentleys and Porsches as well as high-performance and electric vehicles.

The event, which also paid homage to the beauty of classic cars and the thrill of motorbikes, was set up by Daily Driven Brit in aid of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Jay Jones, event organiser said: “The idea at its core is a fundraiser for the Air Ambulance.

"It’s all about doing our bit for charity and to raise some good money for the organisation and to create a really good event, a really good family day out for everyone.

"There’s always something to do and it is showing off vehicles that you wouldn’t typically see as well as allowing people to get up close."

As well as being able to take pictures of the great cars, observers could also enjoy a drink while listening to talks from vehicle owners.

Some of the cars on display included McLarens, Bentleys, Porsches and Minis.

The total amount raised from the event is currently unknown but organisers said "every penny counts".

Jay added: “They were talking about it earlier on stage, it’s over £3,000 for every incident they respond to so if we are able to pay for one flight it’s a great day.

“It’s about doing something different in Southampton, you’ve got the boat show in the summer and other events, but this is just something different.

“We have the police, the air ambulance and we invited the fire brigade but they unfortunately weren’t able to come.

“Kids love things like this, they get to come and see all the sportscar and it makes their day and parents also enjoy having this day where they can just sit back and watch these cars.”

Kevin Taylor, a volunteer for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance said: “It’s very important, at the moment it costs us £17,500 a day to keep the air ambulance responding to incidents.

"We had massive support from the organisers and from the public, they have been very supportive. The public is always amazed that we don’t get any government support, they are surprised to find out we run solely based on the public’s donations.”
