The Red Arrows display team will soar across Hampshire skies today on their way to perform above the Isle of Wight on Sunday (June 30) as part of IW Armed Forces Day.

The display, which will take place over Ryde Esplanade, has been requested to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, in which many brave Islanders played their part.

Flying from the south, the Red Arrows will arrive over St Catherine’s Point at 11.28am and onto Shanklin just a minute later.

At 11.30am, the team will start their display before moving east towards Cowes at 11.50am, where eagle-eyed Islanders might be able to spot them travelling back to base in Bournemouth.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is confirmed to be cancelled this weekend, but there is still lots to look forward to!

Their signature moves include corkscrew, vortex, detonator and the much-revered heart and spear.

The last time the Red Arrows performed a display over the Island was at the Isle of Wight Festival in 2022.

IW Armed Forces Day organiser Ian Dore made it his number one priority to secure the Red Arrows for festivities, saying earlier this year, “To have the Reds over Ryde streaming the red, white and blue, will be nothing short of stunning.”

The Royal Aerobatic Team is celebrating their 60th Diamond Anniversary year with the new aircraft, ‘Red 1’, leading the display.

The Red Arrows could be heard or spotted for a brief flypast later in the afternoon, from Ventnor and Shanklin, with the team's flightpath to the Folkestone Armed Forces’ Day Display seeing the planes fly close to the Island at around 2.23pm.
