Rishi Sunak has spoken to Conservative members on a visit to Romsey just hours before the country goes to the polls.
The Prime Minister arrived at Romsey Rugby Football Club at around 8pm this evening to a sea of Conservative supporters inside.
Delivering a speech, he said: “It is fantastic to be here close to where I grew up”.
He was joined by his wife Akshata Murty, and his mother and father, Usha Sunak and Yashvir Sunak.
The Prime Minister was introduced by Conservative MP for Romsey and Southampton North, Caroline Nokes.
Tory candidate for Southampton Itchen, Sidney Yankson was also in attendance.
Making reference to his Southampton routes, the Prime Minister said: “I managed to watch the last few over of Hampshire thrashing Kent just before coming here.”
Speaking on his record whilst in power, he later added: “Our children are the best educated, best readers in the Western world.
“We’ve made sure that we are the number one defence power in Europe.
“We’ve supported Ukraine, we had the fastest vaccine roll out in the pandemic, we’ve stood up for our values and our allies around the world, and we got Brexit done.
“I don’t know about you but that is a record I am mighty proud of.
“I’m not blind to the fact that it’s been a difficult few years for the country. I will say this, tomorrow’s vote is not a by-election, it’s not a referendum.
“It’s a choice about the future of our country. A choice that is going to have severe consequences for each and every family if we get that choice wrong.”
The visit comes just weeks after Labour leader Keir Starmer visited the Port of Southampton to speak to ABP workers.
On his visit he said Southampton’s port is “absolutely vital”, introducing Labour’s plans for a National Wealth Fund.
