Aimee Gibson is setting her sights on breaking the world’s top 100 after being named the LTA’s Female Padel Player of 2024.

The annual LTA Tennis Awards, presented by Lexus, highlight and celebrate the incredible achievements and contributions of people in tennis and padel across Britain.

After only picking up the sport in 2022, Gibson has enjoyed a super rise in padel and in March won her first pro-level title at the FIP Promotion Cairo alongside Spain's Paula Canivell Varona.

As one of Britain’s best in the still rapidly growing sport, Essex ace Gibson is delighted to have been recognised for her achievements.

“I feel really honoured to receive the award,” she said, “I just want to say a big thank you to the LTA because they've supported me so much this year and it wouldn't have been possible without their help.

“I just broke the top 150 in the world as well, so can't wait for the rest of the season.”

First launched in 2015 with the help of former LTA president Cathie Sabin OBE, the LTA Awards recognise the vital work of volunteers, coaches, officials, and players dedicating their precious time and energy to the continual development and growth of the sport.

Gibson has undoubtedly inspired young Brits to take up padel, and with the Essex-born star only in the embryonic stages of her career, she can’t wait to keep achieving at the highest level.

“It feels really good to be one of the top women,” she added.

“I’m playing for GB in a couple of weeks - it's getting bigger and bigger in this country, so it's nice to be sort of at the forefront of it.

“I would love to one day break the top 100. I think that's a big goal of mine, just see where my ranking can take me.”

While recognising Britain’s top tennis and padel talent at the LTA Awards, there was also a batch of elated winners who had been selected from more than 2,200 nominations across 16 different categories, acknowledged for their outstanding contribution to tennis in 2023.

Leon Smith, Great Britain Davis Cup Team Captain, and LTA Head of Men’s Tennis, said: “It’s been a pleasure to have all the winners and runners-up come together at the National Tennis Centre in celebration of their dedication to the game.

‘’Listening during the awards and finding out more about the impact all our finalists have made to tennis, is just so inspirational. It’s also very humbling to hear about the incredible work they have been doing in clubs, venues, parks, schools, and communities up and down the country.

“We are delighted to be able to acknowledge their amazing contributions. I look forward to following what they go on to do next year. Congratulations to all our amazing finalists.”
