Police have seized a "large quantity" of suspected Class A drugs from a mooring on the River Itchen this morning.

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary attended a private mooring in Priory Road, near St Denys, on Monday morning where a large quantity of suspected drugs was seized from a boat.

This came after a report of suspicious activity taking place at the mooring, near Horseshoe Bridge.

After the search, police arrested 29-year-old man from Solihull on suspicion of supplying a controlled Class A drug.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We were called at 8.04am this morning, Monday, July 8, to a report of suspicious activity taking place at a private mooring on Priory Road in Southampton.

"Officers attended and seized a large quantity of suspected Class A drugs from a boat at the location.

"We have also arrested a 29-year-old man from Solihull on suspicion of supplying a controlled Class A drug.

"He remains in police custody at the current time and our enquiries are ongoing today."
