Drivers have been warned that loose concrete has led to the closure of a major Southampton motorway.
One lane of the northbound carriageway of the M271 has been closed from Redbridge Roundabout in Southampton.
It follows a routine inspection that led to the discovery of a loose section of concrete within the carriageway.
National Highways contractors are now en route to carry out permanent repairs this evening.
The road was closed earlier today.
A full overnight closure will begin at 8pm on the northbound carriageway with diversions set to be put in place.
A spokesperson said: "Road users are advised to follow the signed diversion from Redbridge roundabout, to join the A35 Totton Bypass, A35 Spicers Hill, A326, to rejoin the M27 at junction 2.
"Further updates will be shared as they are confirmed via National Highways X feed, @HighwaysSEAST"
