An investigation has been launched after two people were seen BASE jumping from a tower block.

A viral video captured footage of one person leaping from the 240ft Millbrook Towers, before opening their parachute.

The incident on Thursday night sparked concern amongst Southampton residents.

Millbrook councillor Jeremy Moulton slammed their actions, describing it as “utterly idiotic”.

He said: “They are lucky not to have killed themselves or to have hurt someone else.

“The council is urgently investigating how the person got access to the roof and I would ask that the council investigates all of its tower blocks to ensure people can't get access to the roofs.”

It is not known how the person gained access to the tower block roof.

Southampton City Council confirmed an investigation is underway.

A spokesperson said: “A full investigation is underway to find out how an individual was able to access a secure area and enter the roof space of one of our properties.

“We take all cases of trespass seriously and are in discussions with the appropriate authorities to see what further actions need to be taken.”

The video, shared by Kane Sheen, on Facebook has amassed over 1,000 views.

More than 300 comments have also been made on the post. One of them said: "Imagine just seeing someone parachute past your kitchen window after having a smoke."

Another said: "I remember lads doing that when we was a kid and got stuck in the tree."

Harry Sheen, 29, saw what happened. He told the Echo: "I was sitting out in the field and I heard someone scream and saw two people on the top of the tower.

"One guy jumped off, landed on the grass and then the other guy followed."

He said many in the area who saw the dramatic scenes were amazed.

Harry added: "There were quite a few people in the park at the time.

"You could see people in the balconies in the block enjoying the evening who then just saw a guy flying off the roof. It all happened so fast."
