Maurie's Sandwich Shop in Southampton to open in July

Sister duo Phoebe and Masie White are bringing something new to the sandwich scene with the opening of Maurie’s.

The “tiny” takeaway and sandwich and coffee shop in Southampton is a new venture for the siblings, done in honour of their late grandfather Maurice.

“It is a tribute to his lifelong pursuit of the best sandwich around”, the pair said.

The shop – which replaces the Sandwich Box in The Avenue – will sell fresh-out-of-the-oven focaccia bread filled with ingredients including cheese, delicatessen meats and roasted vegetables.

The pair are working hard to renovate the old shop.

Phoebe and Maisie said: “Everything on the menu is an original recipe by the family team, the menu is concise and concentrated, just like a sauce reduced to its finest flavours.

“Featuring four fully loaded sandwiches, you'll find an impressive selection of signature sauces.”

The team have restored the site, stripping back the facade to its original beauty, with the shop’s awning believed to date back 100 years.

The takeaway will offer more than just sandwiches, with coffee from The Roasting Party on the menu too.

The pair said: “Maurie's is the next chapter in a flourishing family enterprise that is underpinned by Southampton heritage and family ties.

“The shop is serendipitously located near Highfield Southampton; the very area grandad Maurice grew up and lived for most of his life.”

Maurie's Sandwich Shop opens on July 25 and will be open from 7am to 3.30pm all week.

Pre-order will open every Sunday for the week ahead but there will be sandwiches available for walk-ins too.

The cafe will be giving away free coffee from 7.30am to 12 midday to celebrate the opening.
