A Southampton church leader has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship from Solent University.

Paul Woodman, the respected leader of City Life Church, has been awarded the title in recognition of his services to local communities.

An alumnus of Solent, graduating in 2004 with a masters in business administration, Paul has spent the last two decades developing social initiatives in Southampton.

Under the umbrella of Love Southampton, Paul leads a network of churches and Christian charities, supporting communities in the city to thrive.

On Thursday, July 11, at one of eight graduation ceremonies at Solent, Paul became an Honorary Fellow.

The prestigious accolade was handed to Paul for the pivotal role he has played in ensuring disadvantaged residents have the opportunity to engage and participate as active citizens in their communities.

After receiving his honorary fellowship, Paul said: “I am deeply honoured to receive this Honorary Fellowship, and very proud of the work that has been achieved in Southampton through our local partnership with Solent University.

“I have been very impressed with all the staff and students who have engaged in community issues and used their talents to help others.”

The university said that Paul is a champion of Solent’s student community and works closely with them to support their work with sanctuary seekers.

He established City Life Education and Action for Refugees, a local charity which supports refugees and asylum seekers in Southampton.

A committed advocate for social inclusion and community infrastructure, Paul has contributed to projects across foster care, homelessness and education to help the city to thrive.

With Solent University, Paul helped to establish the Southampton Sanctuary Network, which led to their recognition as a University of Sanctuary.

A spokesperson for Solent University said: “Paul opens doors to opportunities for students, staff and graduates; he is a true champion of Solent, and the value of higher education for individuals and communities.”
