A large emergency response rushed near the Itchen Bridge yesterday evening.
The Coastguard was alerted to assist with a potential person in the water near the Itchen Bridge yesterday around 3.30pm.
Lymington and Hill Head Coastguard rescue teams, along with the police and paramedics rushed to the scene.
It was reported to police that a woman was in the water.
A helicopter was spotted hovering above the waters as emergency services descended onto the banks of the river near the Crosshouse Road car park.
Police officers arrived at the scene and spoke to the woman, who was “safe”.
A spokesperson from the force said: "We were called at 4.30pm today, July 19, to reports of the concern for the welfare of a woman near the Itchen Bridge.
"It was reported that a woman was in the water. Officers attended the scene and spoke to the woman, who is now safe."
All assets were then stood down.
