Two men have been arrested after a car crashed into a tree following a police pursuit on Monday night.

Both the driver and passenger of a vehicle were seriously injured and taken to hospital after the crash, on Hursley Road near Chandler's Ford.

The Audi had been spotted by police at around 11pm on Monday on Bournemouth Road, but made off when officers tried to stop the vehicle, a spokesperson said.

They later found the vehicle after it had crashed into the tree.

Money and drugs were found in the vehicle.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "At around 11pm on Monday 22 July, officers spotted a vehicle on Bournemouth Road, Chandlers Ford, which they sought to stop.

"However, this vehicle made off from them.

"A short time later, the vehicle was located having been involved in a collision with a tree on Hursley Road.

"The driver and passenger suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment where they remain at this time.

"During a search of the vehicle, officers located a quantity of money and drugs, and both men have also been arrested.

"A 22-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

"A 19-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs."
