Kiddi Caru Day Nursery and Preschool in Whiteley has earned the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation.
Originally established in 1994, the Eco-Schools programme encourages participants to act on seven key environmental issues.
The Whiteley nursery got the ball rolling by forming an Eco-Committee, composed of children who've shown passion for environmental concerns.
The committee selected projects which offer great potential for positive environmental impact, an aspect highly praised in their Eco-Schools assessment.
Erika Maindrou, nursery manager at Kiddi Caru Day Nursery and Preschool Whiteley, said: "I am delighted to have achieved our Eco-Schools Green Flag award!
"Giving children the chance to engage with the natural environment and learn all about how to protect it is so important for the future. Thank you to my brilliant team and the children who made this possible."
The school's selected projects include a beach clean-up outing and the creation of a recycling role-play area that the Eco-Schools reviewers applauded as a "great idea".
Further, they are implementing a home recycling challenge, a move that Eco-Schools regards as crucial in fighting environmental issues.
Aside from these specialised activities, the nursery's curriculum also incorporates environmental education.
Children are taught to plant, grow, and care for fruits and vegetables, equipping them with important skills to care for the environment.
These lessons are part of the Sow & Grow education programme offered by Grandir UK, the nursery's parent company.
