A strip club in Southampton has secured permission to change one of its licence conditions.

Playhouse in London Road sought approval from the city council to make alterations to the front of the premises.

This included removing signage advertising the karaoke element of the business.

As the application related to a sexual entertainment venue licence, the matter had to go before a licensing sub-committee.

A hearing to discuss the condition variation request took place on Wednesday, July 24.

Applicant London Road Leisure Limited has held a licence in the city since July 2021 after an application to transfer the licence was accepted.

The licence has to be renewed annually, with the current one due to expire on August 27, 2024.

It allows regulated entertainment and the supply of alcohol from 10am to 4.30am seven days a week.

The company has multiple other premises that it operates in Cardiff.

No response to the variation request was received from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary’s licensing team.

A report prepared ahead of the sub-committee meeting said the licence holder works closely with the council and police licensing teams.

The manager of Playhouse and the director of London Road Leisure Limited were present at the meeting.

The decision notice from the sub-committee said: “It was confirmed the new frontage for the premises would be painted wood and not glass showing an impression of the venue’s interior,” a decision notice said.

Councillors concluded that no objections had been raised and there was no compelling evidence presented that would justify refusal of the application or any reason for amendments to the proposed changes.
