Families were treated to an exciting afternoon filled with activities at the HMS Sultan Families Day event.

The annual gathering, a favourite amongst personnel and their guests, boasted a variety of activities from a petting zoo to rides on HMS Sultan's Steam Waggon on August 1.

Highlights included the Soak-a-sailor, inflatables, and a performance by the Tigers Motorcycle Display Team, turning the day into more than a simple outing.

The occasion presented an opportunity for personnel and their families to unwind after a demanding term.

The event offered educational value, as attendees got a glimpse of the support available through service charities and organisations, all thanks to the charities' support.

The executive officer of HMS Sultan, Commander Fergus Ochtman-Corfe, said: "What a fantastic day we’ve had at our Families Day and it’s a privilege to have our friends and family here with us to enjoy it.

​"The event offers us all an opportunity to relax and have some fun after what’s been a long, and demanding, term."

During the term, there have been notable accomplishments, including the graduation of the first Royal Australian Navy Nuclear submarine officers from Sultan as part of the AUKUS partnership.

Other feats comprised their representation in numerous sports, positive contribution to the community and boosting STEM among school children through SULSTEMIC.

By recognising familial and civic contributions to their achievements, the event carried a deeper significance.

Cmdr Ochtman-Corfe said: "All of these things have been achieved with the support of our friends and families and today also allows us to recognise this.

"I’m also very grateful to all of our sponsors and charities who have helped to make this Families Day a spectacular event."

HMS Sultan, home to the Defence College of Technical Training’s Defence School of Marine Engineering and the Royal Naval Air Engineering and Survival Equipment School, prepares engineers and technicians to provide crucial operational capabilities.

This includes daily maintenance, repair and operation of aircraft, ships, submarines and vehicles on operations across the world.
