Police have warned against swimming or jumping into the water at Hamble Quay after a spate of anti-social behaviour.

Officers warned residents of the dangers of Hamble Quay in a post on social media after a period of hot weather last week.

Hampshire Constabulary previously told people not to jump in the water as it contains a "high level of e-coli bacteria, sewage and hidden objects".

But in a renewed effort to keep users of the river safe, a spokesperson for the force's Marine Support Unit said: "Hamble Quay is a beautiful place to visit.

"What is not acceptable is the anti-social behaviour that has been occurring over the last couple of days.

"It is an offence to swim or jump from the walkway or pontoon it is also dangerous due to currents and moving vessels."

The warnings come after children vandalised a lifeboat on the river on the afternoon of Monday, July 29.
