Plans to turn disused commercial space into a one-bedroom flat have been given the go-ahead.
Southampton City Council has approved an application relating to the ground floor of a two-storey building in Romsey Road, Shirley.
The application was submitted by S&E Original Homes.
It said: "The proposed changes involve converting part of the existing ground floor shop space into a residential flat.
"The proposal maintains the existing architectural character of the building, with no external alterations planned for the main elevation.
"This preservation of the building's distinctive front elevation, including its prominent arched window, ensures the aesthetic and historical value of the structure is retained."
A council report said the flat would occupy space previously used by a dog grooming business.
It added: "The environmental health officer has no objection in principle to this flat in this location.
"However, the walls between the proposed flat and the shop at the front and the shops either side must be adequately insulated to ensure any noise made within the shop premises is not a nuisance to future residents.
"That said, there will be a sound-proofing requirement under building regulations, whilst the disturbance from the business activities would be limited by the small floor area.
"All habitable rooms will have adequate access.
"In conclusion, the proposal is judged to have an acceptable impact and therefore can be granted prior approval."
