A Southampton woman has said she should have listened to friends before marrying her holiday romance, who she labelled a ‘con artist’ after finding out he’d been having an affair.
Charlotte, 35, tied the knot with Johan, 21, in the Dominican Republic, which was showcased on the recent on Discovery+ reality television series, 90 Day Fiancé, that concluded on Monday.
Having overcome concerns from friends and family that she was being used as a “sugar mummy,” Charlotte wed the supposed love of her life - who was 14 years her junior.
However, when she returned to Southampton, Charlotte discovered that Johan had an affair with another woman while they were married.
This prompted the 35-year-old to challenge her husband – who at the time denied the affair – before she set fire to her wedding dress in the garden.

In the final episode of season three of the Discovery+ series, Charlotte admitted in a tell-all conversation with host Mel Giedroyc: “I shouldn’t have done it, I should have listened to my friends, my mum – that absolutely destroys me.
“I didn’t go into marriage easily, but I did it because I loved him.”
The season finale saw Charlotte quizzed about her holiday exploits – along with the show’s other participants – where she revealed that Johan now “accepts what he’s done” and “admits everything".
“He wanted to get back together,” said Charlotte.
“I have asked for a divorce, he got the papers and said ‘congratulations, you’ll be a free woman in 10 days’ – on the tenth day I messaged him asking if it was done and he said – ‘oh no, it’s 10 days after you pay for it'.
“I was so besotted with him. Watching it back now I just think 'what the hell were you doing?'
“I took a leap of faith, and it didn’t work.”
