A Southampton woman has got engaged after declaring her love for a man she had never seen before on a Netflix show.

Make-up artist Maria, 30, appeared among other hopefuls on Love Is Blind UK in a bid to find a partner.

Participants sit in opposite pods, unable to see each other, where they can only communicate via talking.

Those that find love then get engaged when meeting each other for the first time, before moving in with each other and then getting married.

Maria found love with Tom, a 38-year-old advertising consultant from London.

Featuring on episodes three and four of the series – with a further five episodes of the show released next week – Maria said: “I knew I was going to develop feeling for people, but I didn’t expect it to be this strong.

“With Tom  I feel like the more time we spend together, the more we start to understand how much we like each other.”

In further meetups the pair discussed their future plans, including marriage. Maria said: “I don’t mind taking on traditional roles and traditional values, and don’t mind taking on more of the wife role because that would make me feel happy and feel good.”

Maria would later profess her love for Tom, with the latter eventually proposing to Maria – which she accepted – as they met face to face for the first time, outside the pods.

“I’ve never felt so sure about someone, I love you,” said Maria.

Speaking to camera, she added: “I’m getting more invested and hope Tom feels the same.

“As our dates have gone on, we’ve had deeper conversations, it’s because we need to know the important stuff.”

Maria appeared on the show, hosted by Matt and Emma Willis, on August 7.
