A coffee shop serving up modernity and hand-selected brews has opened its doors.
Flagship Coffee in Portswood welcomed customers at the start of August.
At the helm is owner Tyler Jones who says he ‘gives a ship’ about good, high-quality coffee.
The 23-year-old has worked in hospitality for around 10 years and decided to take the plunge and launch his own venture.
He said: “I moved down to Portsmouth to be closer to my grandad and I thought to myself, ‘where am I going next, where do I want to go in my life?’
“I saw this site, formerly The Nest, up for sale and went for it. After two months, I took it over in June and at the end of July we did the refit of the building.”
The coffee scene in Southampton is bustling, but Tyler is optimistic he can bring something different to the table.

He said: “I have worked for some of the major coffee houses in the UK before.
“But this always felt very commercial for me as I had worked in independent coffee shops prior to that.
“Opening Flagship is about me putting my personal touch on things and showing that we care about our customers and the products we sell.”
Tyler added: “The name Flagship was chosen due to the city’s nautical background, and it is also a phrase used by luxury businesses.”
Flagship serves coffee from Broadway Coffee Roasters and is all “white label”- meaning the blend is picked by Tyler for his shop and is only served there.
A variety of cakes and sweet treats are available, along with pour over, hard, and drip coffee.
Tyler was also keen to offer drinks more unusual to find, such as matcha and superfood lattes, with flavours including charcoal.
He said: “We are bringing the more modern concept commonly seen in London and Brighton to the city.
“On top of our offering, alternative milks are available free of charge. These choices are becoming popular, and we want to cater for all customers and make them feel welcome.
“Now Flagship is open, I am putting our name out there and looking at hosting an open gallery for local artists, and working with Free Flow Portsmouth, a period poverty project.
“We are not just a coffee shop; we work like a ship and everybody has their role.”
Flagship Coffee is open from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Saturday.
