Drivers should expect further delays this weekend as Redbridge Causeway is closed for roadworks once again.

The closure of the westbound carriageway between Southampton and the New Forest caused gridlock on the M27, M271 and local roads around Totton and Romsey last weekend.

The next closure will take place from 8pm on Saturday (August 17) until 6am on Monday (August 19) to allow for essential safety repairs.

The work is part of a wider £25 million scheme to refurbish the decades-old bridges spanning the River Test.

It will see the A35 closed completely between Redbridge Roundabout and Rushington Roundabout with diversions in place.

This will be the last weekend closure under the current phase of the scheme, unless a contingency weekend is required from August 31 to September 2 and September 7 to 9 due to bad weather.

Weekday overnight closures will take place from Tuesday August 27 to Friday August 30, Monday September 2 to Friday September 6 and from Monday September 9 to Wednesday September 11.

The southern footway of the westbound A35 will also be closed.
