Police have stepped in regarding a traveller encampment at a popular park and dog walking spot in West End.

The camp at Hatch Grange was set up on Friday, and the parish council confirmed it had informed the police.

A number of tents have been put up on the large field and are accompanied by several vehicles including at least one caravan.

A spokesperson for Hampshire police said: "We were made aware of an unauthorised encampment at 2.30pm on Friday 16 August at Hatch Grange, West End.

"Approximately 9-10 vehicles, one caravan and one campervan are currently on the site.

"Officers have visited the encampment to engage with both the travelling and local communities.

"We are continuing to work closely with local partners in order to seek a suitable resolution."

The playing field is popular with dog walkers and families, particularly during the school holidays.
