The Monkey Brewhouse pub, in Lymington, has installed a new automated external defibrillator (AED) after community members raised funds for the life-saving device.

According to St John's Ambulance, more than 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests take place each year in the UK, with a survival rate of one in ten.

Access to a defibrillator within three to five minutes of collapse increases the chance of survival by 70 per cent.

Anyone can use the automated device by ringing 999 or asking inside the pub for the access code to open the cabinet.

The AED then guides the user through CPR and indicates if a shock is required.

It also comes with a paediatric mode for use on children.

Samm Weeks, assistant manager at Monkey Brewhouse, said: "We are so pleased to now have access to this crucial life-saving kit.

"We launched the fundraiser at our annual beer festival in June and held a raffle to help raise the funds.

"Our community really came through with an incredible number of local businesses donating prizes for the raffle.

"We want to say a huge thank you to all of our customers for buying raffle tickets and donating, and to electricians Russell & Green, who installed the AED free of charge."

Monkey Brewhouse is located on 167 Southampton Road, Lymington.
