Plans to transform an empty hair salon have been put forward.

People have been unable to sustain “a viable business” at 12 Derby Road, developers said.

Graham Lipscombe, who has submitted the proposals, hopes to give the space a new lease of life.

In an application submitted to Eastleigh Borough Council, he said the property was approved for commercial use in 2008 and has since had several businesses operating from the site, with little success.

Mr Lipscombe wants to convert the ground floor into a two-bedroom flat.

He said: “The neighbouring property 10a has been converted into flats along with others in the immediate area.

“I note that car parking within the local plan is discouraged because of the excellent public transportation within and afforded to people who wish to commute to and out of Eastleigh.

“The location is within walking distance into the town centre, and there is communal amenity space to the rear of the proposal.

“There are also parks and open spaces close by for use of the residents.

“Access to and from the proposal will be via existing pavements and highways adjacent to the property.”

A decision will be made on October 3.
