Southampton, like many other cities in the UK, has a rich history of LGBTQ+ activism and celebration.
While Pride events have become more prominent in recent years, the city's LGBTQ+ community has been active for decades.
The first major Pride event in Southampton was Solent Pride, which took place in the early 1990s.
This event celebrated the LGBTQ+ community and raised awareness about the issues they faced. Solent Pride ran for a few years but eventually ceased.
After a period of absence, Pride events returned to Southampton in 2016.
The city has since hosted annual Pride celebrations. These events have grown in size and popularity, attracting thousands of participants and allies.
The event includes a colourful and vibrant parade through the city centre, featuring floats, marchers, and music.
The day-long festival packs live performances, stalls, food, and activities alongside educational and informative sessions on LGBTQ+ issues, history, and culture.
Southampton Pride has played a vital role in promoting inclusivity, visibility, and acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community in the city. It serves as a platform for celebrating diversity and challenging discrimination.
These pictures were taken since the event began in 2016.
