A big clean-up operation got underway after a group of travellers left a park.

Volunteers grabbed their bin bags and litter pickers and removed rubbish dumped at Hatch Grange.

The waste is believed to have been left by a group of travellers who spent a week at the green space in West End.

Discarded tents, bags of food waste, clothes and other debris littered the space.

Large patches have grass have also been damaged by the various vehicles and tents.

Several volunteers, many of whom live in West End, railed together on Sunday, August 25, to make Hatch Grange spick and span again.

One volunteer, who wished to remain unnamed, said: “Parish Council staff and volunteers were out early, clearing away the large amounts of rubbish left behind.

“The discarded tents and bags of food waste, clothes and other debris filled the back of a small truck.

“As well as the rubbish, the travellers left tyre-tracks all over the site and faded patches where tents had been pitched.”

The big clean-up comes after police officers were called to the traveller site on Saturday afternoon.

The force confirmed a crash occurred between two vehicles occurred, but no injuries were reported.

The unauthorised encampment was set up on August 16, much to the disdain of residents.

court order was issued, and a notice was put up at the entrance of Hatch Grange at the end of last week.

Following the group’s departure, West End Parish Council said: “Just to make everyone aware, the travellers have now left Hatch Grange, and the gates are locked and secured.

“The Parish Clerk will be beginning the clear up on Sunday with a litter pick.

“If anyone wishes to stop by and lend a hand, he will be at Hatch Grange for 10am.”
