An investigation has been launched after a naked man was reportedly seen near a river.

A woman was walking near the River Itchen when she encountered the man.

The unknown man tried speaking to the woman before she walked off.

The alleged indecent exposure occurred on the bridleway, off Five Bridges Road, between St. Cross Symondians Cricket Club and the River Itchen.

The man is described as white, aged between 55 and 62 years, approximately 5ft 8ins tall, and of larger build.

He is also bald with a peaked nose and was possibly wearing glasses.

The incident – between 2.30pm and 2.35pm on Wednesday, August 21 – has now prompted a police appeal.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: “We would like to hear from anyone else who was also in the area at the time of the incident, recalls seeing the man described above, or knows his identity.

“Additionally, if you have any other information which may assist in our investigation, including any dash cam, doorbell camera, mobile phone or CCTV footage, please contact us on 101 and quote incident number 44240361313.
