A renewed appeal has been issued to take deadly zombie-style knives off the streets in Southampton.

The Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones, is calling for such weapons to be surrendered across Hampshire.

Her plea comes after a boy, 15, was “stabbed in the head with a zombie knife” at Bitterne train station on August 17.

His mother, who the Echo is not naming, said she returned home to find her son dying on the floor.

The extent of his injuries is yet to be determined.

A national month-long campaign was launched on Monday, August 26, for owners of knives and machetes to safely and legally hand them over at police stations.

Donna Jones described the scheme as “vital”.

She said: “This surrender scheme will take more deadly weapons off the streets in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

“It is vital that members of the public come forward to prevent further devastating and life-changing consequences to so many families.

“There is no place for these kinds of weapons in our neighbourhoods.

“We must all work together to drive down knife crime and give people more positive futures and better life choices.”

Although the use of such knives and knife crime remains, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary reported that knife crime offences for the two counties have gone down by nearly eight per cent compared to last year.
