A Netflix series has shown the moment a Southampton woman was left jilted at the altar on her wedding day.
Make-up artist Maria, 30, thought she’d found the love of her life after meeting 38-year-old advertising consultant, Tom, on Love Is Blind UK.
The Netflix series hosted by Matt and Emma Willis showcases a group of singletons who find love by chatting to each other in pods – unable to see one another – before meeting in person for the first time as they get engaged, with just a few weeks to get to know each other before marriage.
After overcoming their first argument and meeting each other’s families, Maria and Tom were all ready to tie the knot after going through their wedding vows, before the latter walked away from the relationship as it “wasn’t the right time".

Standing in shock at the altar, Maria was comforted by her sister – with friends and family on both sides left speechless.
Maria said: “I absolutely can’t believe this. I wanted to get married, I wanted to be a wife, and I feel incredibly sad that I didn’t get the ending that I pictured for myself, but I know it probably wasn’t the right time for both of us.
“I don’t really know what to say, I’m shocked.”
She added: “Him saying no hurt me and there’s always going to be a bit of sadness in me as I wish our paths could have been different.”
Explaining his decision in front of the Netflix cameras, Tom said: “She’s someone that I’ll always love and respect but if Maria and I had children, my concern would be that if we had a boy, she would teach him to pay for most things when my lad would be dating for the first time.
“Likewise, if we had a little girl, I wouldn’t want her to think that the guy pays for everything.”
He added: “I just don’t think we had enough time to address those things.”
