The following cases have been heard at Southampton Magistrates' Court...

MICHAEL SAYER, 56, of Elm Crescent, Hythe pleaded guilty to driving without a licence, failing to report an accident and aggravated vehicle taking. These relate to an incident where Slayer crashed into a lamp post on Long Lane, Holbury. Slayer received a community order until February 27, 202, with 10 rehabilitation days and a 12-month ban. He was fined £733 and must pay £85 court costs and a £114 surcharge. 

PAUL ATHERTON, 61, of Salisbury Road, Romsey admitted speeding on the A33, St Marys Place, Northbound. He was clocked at 35mph in a 30 zone by an automatic camera while driving a Volvo. Atherton was fined £188 and received three points. He must also pay £110 court costs and a £75 surcharge.

JAMES HUGHES, 39, of Copnor Road, Portsmouth pleaded guilty to speeding on the A3024 Bitterne Road West, Southampton. He was clocked at 39mph in a 30 zone while driving a Volvo. Hughes was fined £72 and received three points. He must pay a £28 surcharge. 

CATHERINE VINE, 41, of Southampton Street, Southampton admitted eight counts of theft from a shop and one count of possessing a controlled drug of Class B, namely cannabis. She was caught having stolen £530.45 of meat, beauty products, groceries, chocolate, washing up liquid, beer and baby food from Co-Op, One Stop, Superdrug and Morrisons. Vine received a 14-week sentence suspended for 12 months and must pay £120 compensation. The court ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs. 

CHRISTOPHER LANG, 33, of Wakefield Road, Southampton admitted three public order offences, an assault by beating, common assault and two counts of racially or religiously aggravated harassment. Lang received a six-month sentence suspended for 18 months with an alcohol abstinence and monitoring requirement, a mental health treatment requirement and 10 rehabilitation days. He must pay a £200 fine and £85 court costs.
