The first computer-generated images of what a major new secondary school in Whiteley will look like when built have been shared by Hampshire County Council.

HCC is building a new 900-place secondary school to serve the new housing development in Whiteley.

Currently, 2,000 new homes and a further 3,500 homes are planned as part of the development known as North Whiteley, 1,500 of which are already occupied.

The new secondary school is planned to open in September 2027 for ages 11-16 years, admitting up to 180 students per year group.

The new school also includes a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Resourced Provision.

A consultation is being launched through September where Whiteley residents can discuss the proposal with council officials and provide their feedback.

A drop in event will be held on Tuesday, September 10, from 3:30pm to 6:30pm at Cornerstone Church of England Primary School on Bluebell Way, Whiteley.

The new school building will comprise of:

  • 7 x Science classrooms
  • 2 x Art rooms
  • Design and Technology (Food)
  • 2 x Design and Technology (Resistant Materials)
  • Design and Technology (Graphics)
  • Design and Technology (Constructional Textiles)
  • A sports hall
  • Activity studio
  • Assembly hall
  • Drama studio
  • Music classroom with practice rooms
  • Special Educational Needs, Resource/Group/Therapy Provision
  • Learning resource centre
  • Dining hall
  • Kitchen
  • Pupil and staff toilets
  • Accessible toilets and a hygiene Room
  • Staffroom and associated staff workspaces
  • Administration offices
  • Other support facilities include plant room, storage, and caretaker’s room
  • 2 x All weather sports pitches
  • Multi use games court
  • Grass sports pitch
  • External hard play
  • External soft play
  • Habitat areas

Fareham Borough Councillor, Joanne Burton, has taken to Facebook to alert residents to the proposal.

She said: “I am delighted to report that Hampshire County Council has opened a pre-planning consultation on the proposal to build a new 900 place secondary school on land north of Whiteley.

“This facility is much-needed for Whiteley and was an issue that many residents spoke to me about during the local election campaign following the campaigning carried out for a Whiteley secondary school by my predecessor, Alderman Sean Woodward.”

The consultation can be found on the Hampshire County Council website.
