A man was caught with more than 1,500 indecent images of children after police noticed suspicious activity.

Andrew Baxter was arrested after police found an IP address connected to him was being used to download indecent images of children. 

A number of items were seized when he was arrested, with officers finding 22 Category B indecent images and 1,500 Category C images. 

They also found 15 prohibited images of a child. 

The 56-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of making indecent images of children and a single charge of possessing a prohibited image of a child at Southampton Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

The offences were committed in the Southampton area on November 21, 2021.

Prosecutor, David Finney said Baxter has no previous convictions and asked the court to adjourn for a pre-sentence report. 

He added: "I would ask the court to make sure there is interim notification requirements given to the defendant."

Stephen Tricker, mitigating added that his client responded to a postal requisition and should be bailed. 

Baxter, of Stapleford Close, Romsey, was granted unconditional bail to appear at the same court on November 1 for sentencing. 

Magistrates ordered a pre-sentence report and made Baxter subject to interim notification requirements. 

Chair, Andrew Cawthran said: "You are required within three days of your release to go to a police station.

"If you intend to travel abroad regardless of the length of the trip you have to give police seven days' notice."
