The Food Hygiene Agency rates restaurants from zero to five based on the hygiene standards and practices observed by inspectors upon a visit.

Receiving a rating of zero means that urgent improvement is needed with a rating of one or two suggests that major or some improvement is necessary.

A three rating means that food hygiene at a premises is generally satisfactory with four and five ratings being given for good and great hygiene standards respectively.
