National waste management company Biffa has acquired a leading Hampshire construction and demolition waste operator, L&S Waste Management.

Biffa completed the acquisition on September 10 and will be overtaking all of its associated facilities, including its 91-vehicle fleet.

L&S Waste Management was established in 1997 and serves major areas along the South Coast, including Southampton, Fareham, Portsmouth and Chichester.

The business includes two construction and demolition recycling facilities in Southampton and Portsmouth with a combined annual capacity of 225,000 tonnes.

It also included a transfer station in Fareham, and a fleet of 91 collection vehicles that will now be operated by Biffa.

Mick Balch, managing director at L&S, said: “New and existing customers will continue to be serviced by the L&S brand and by the same team.

“We are committed to providing the most sustainable service possible, while also being able to draw on Biffa’s extensive pool of resources and expertise.”

A well-established brand in Hampshire, L&S will continue to trade as L&S Waste Management.

Biffa said the deal will support its low carbon recycling solutions for its local authority and industrial customers, as well as increasing the amount of recycled products available to the construction industry.

The company also operates processing facilities in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Birmingham and Cardiff, and is the UK’s leading supplier of waste skips.

Marc Angell, Biffa’s managing director, said: “We’re delighted to welcome the L&S team and customers to the Biffa Group.

"The addition of L&S’ capability in the construction and demolition sector will further strengthen our services in this important market.

“They are very well established in the region, with a focus on quality. Their sites, brand and scale give them a competitive advantage along the South Coast.

“We look forward to working together to leverage Biffa’s unique position at the heart of the circular economy, enabling more customers to meet their carbon reduction commitments.”
