Drivers are being warned as a major village road has been hit by roadworks.

Mill Hill in Botley has been struck by road works this week as part of a development of more than 100 homes.

Housing provider, Abri has been constructing 115 homes at the Sherecroft Farm site on Mill Hill, and now requires access to the road as part of the development.

A two-way traffic light system has been in place from September 9 and is expected to remain until September 28.

The construction company have sent a letter to residents warning them of the disruption.

A spokesperson for Abri said: “We'd like to let you know that we need to carry out some road works to the entrance of the Sherecroft Meadows development along the A334 Mill Hill.

“This will result in a partial road closure from 9 September 2024.

“To maintain the safety of the highway and the operatives carrying out the work, we'll be installing temporary two-way traffic lights which will be operating 24 hours a day to help manage the traffic.

“The work is expected to take no longer than two weeks and should be completed by September 28, 2024.”

The area is known to get congested through the rush-hour so drivers are being warned to avoid the road during busy tines if possible.

The Abri spokesperson continued: “The road work will mean that a section of the pavement at the entrance to the development along the A334 won't be accessible.

“For safe pedestrian access to Botley and Botley train station, a barriered temporary footpath will be in place within the two-way traffic light area.

“We'll have signage in place with contact details in case of an emergency. To help reduce the time the traffic lights are needed, we'll have two shifts of workers in place to help complete the work.

“We'd like to apologise for any disruption and thank you in advance for your patience. We're very sorry about any inconvenience that may be caused.”
