Even before the modern carnival we know today, Wareham has a long history of summer festivities and processions.

Up until the 1900s, a summer regatta with boat races and a greased pole climbing challenge was a popular tradition on the River Frome.

This suggests a long-standing community spirit of celebration in Wareham that likely influenced the development of the modern Carnival.

These days Wareham Carnival incorporates a variety of events throughout a weekend, including a parade, live music, duck races, a dog show, a family picnic, and even a history walk.

The carnival is a major community event in Wareham, with strong volunteer involvement and fundraising efforts to support local charities.

This year's event took place over three days at Wareham recreation ground on July 19-21.
