A man has been arrested and three people have been injured after a crash in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called today, September 15, to a two vehicle collision on at the junction of Bassett Avenue and Burgess Road. 

Three people have reported suffering minor injuries as a result of the collision. 

Hampshire Constabulary have now arrested a 31-year-old on suspicion of driving without due care and attention and suspicion of driving under the influence. 

As the incident unfolded, Southampton City Council told drivers to avoid the area through its travel updates on X, formerly known as Twitter.

A police spokesperson said: "We were called at 3.31am today (15 September) to a report of a two-car road traffic collision at the junction of Bassett Avenue and Burgess Road.

"Two men and a woman reported minor injuries.

"A 31-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention.

"He was also arrested on suspicion of driving when alcohol level above limit and driving with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.

"The man remains in custody while our enquiries continue."
