A festival celebrating diversity and creativity within the Black community is returning this month.

Southampton’s Black Businesses, Art and Music Festival (BBAM) is back to showcase black creative talent from the worlds of art, fashion, music and food.

The one-day event is the biggest celebration of Black culture in the south, according to organisers.

Dr. Abdoulie Sanneh, chair of The United Voice of African Associations (TUVAA), said: “The festival is creating a space where our community can come together, showcase their talents, and inspire the next generation of artists and business leaders.

“Our theme for this year is ‘Journey through Africa and the Caribbean Islands’ and visitors can experience, immerse themselves and enjoy all we have to offer.”

The free event will come to the O2 Guildhall on Saturday, September 28, only two days before the start of Black History Month.

It will run from 11am to 6pm.

Performer Henry Ngoka, also known as Mr Buoyant, will take to the stage at the festival.

He said: “Being part of the BBAM Festival is incredibly meaningful to me as an Afrobeats artist. It's an amazing platform to connect with my roots and showcase my musical talent and my culture.

“It’s empowering to be part of an event that celebrates Black identity through art, music, and entrepreneurship, highlighting the diversity and richness of African heritage in the community."

Attendees can expect a plethora of entertainment, from an art exhibition to live bands, DJs, poetry, and African and Caribbean food.

The event will be spread across four locations: O2 Guildhall, Guildhall Square, John Hansard Gallery, and MAST Mayflower Studios.
