A boy has been bailed after a police officer was 'dragged across the road' and 80 wraps of suspected Class A drugs were found during a search.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, officers were on patrol in Cumberland Place when they noticed a teenager acting suspiciously and approaching members of the public.

A spokesperson for the police said in a Facebook post: "Officers attempted to stop him to ascertain his details.

"A search under Section 1 Police and Criminal Evidence Act was started looking for bladed articles.

"The male began to heavily resist causing injuries to the officers, dragging them across a live carriageway on Cumberland Place. An urgent assistance button was pressed.

"The male was eventually arrested on suspicion of obstructing a police constable and it transpired he was only 15-years of age."

A search uncovered 80 individually wrapped packages of suspected class A drugs.

The boy was further arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Police said the injuries caused to the officer were only cuts and bruises. The officer remained on duty.

The 15-year-old has been released on police bail until December 15.
