A Southampton care home has opened a new dementia-friendly garden and sensory room.

South Haven Lodge in Woolston welcomed the Mayor of Southampton, Cllr Dave Shields, to officially open the new facilities.

The care home, part of Aurem Care, aims to provide a 'peaceful and engaging environment' for residents living with dementia.

The garden includes a yellow pathway to support visually impaired people.

The manager of South Haven Lodge, Jan Porter, said: "We’re incredibly proud of our new dementia-friendly garden and sensory room.

"These spaces have been created with our residents in mind, offering them a peaceful retreat where they can engage with nature and enjoy sensory activities.

"It’s been heart-warming to see the positive reactions from both residents and their families, and we are so grateful to everyone who made this possible."

The grand opening was a 'joyful' occasion, with live music performed by 'Singing by Natalie', adding to the lively atmosphere.

Residents, staff, and guests also enjoyed a barbecue, which brought everyone together in a 'true celebration of community, well-being, and care'.

The dementia-friendly garden is now open, and the community is invited to drop by for a visit.
