A 'tragic' incident at a port prompted an emergency response.

Police and ambulance crews were called to ABP Solent Gateway just before 2pm today.

ABP, which owns the port, confirmed there was a "tragic incident", but did not give further details.

A spokesperson said: "We are aware of a tragic incident involving a person on site at ABP Solent Gateway today.  

"We are providing the appropriate assistance to the relevant bodies to support their inquiries into the incident. 

"We won’t be providing any further comment at this time. 

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the person involved."

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed officers remained on the scene of an "industrial incident"  this afternoon.

A spokesperson said: "We were called at 1.54pm by the ambulance service following a report of an industrial incident at Marchwood barracks."

An air ambulance was also called to the scene.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance confirmed that the air ambulance, carrying a doctor and specialist paramedic, was dispatched to an incident at 1.52pm.

A spokesperson said: “The charity's Critical Care Paramedic response car, carrying two specialist paramedics, was also dispatched.

“Following treatment on scene, the air ambulance teams returned to base.”
