The Itchen Bridge has been closed by emergency services after an incident.
Rush hour traffic came to a standstill at around 5:15pm as police attended the bridge.
The road was shut to traffic in both directions with vehicles stopped along the length of the bridge.
A police car could be seen parked up with its emergency lights on.
Itchen Bridge is currently closed in both directions. Road has been closed by emergency services while attending to an incident. Please seek alternative routes where possible. @SouthamptonCC

Southampton City Council alerted residents to the traffic disruption through its travel updates on X.
The road has since reopened and traffic is now moving in both directions.
The nature of the incident is unknown at this time.
Hampshire Constabulary has been approached for more information.
