The suspension of the Hythe Ferry has been extended until early October as ferry bosses search for a contractor to fix the pontoon and get the service back underway.
The ferry was disrupted after the pontoon at the end of Hythe Pier was found damaged on August 22.
No ferries between Hythe and Southampton will run while quotes are gathered for repairs and the Hythe and Southampton Ferry Company have said that the suspension will now be extended until early October.
In a post on Facebook, a spokesperson for the Hythe Ferry Company said: “We promised we would provide you with a further update on The Hythe and Southampton Ferry Company service suspension.
“Two weeks ago, we reached out to a number of external contractors to understand the financial investment required to bring The Hythe Ferry back into service safely.
“It is important we have a number of quotes to review, but we are yet to receive all responses, so the service suspension will be extended until at least early October.
“This extension allows sufficient time to assess the quotes thoroughly and ensure the most sustainable and safe decision is made.

Residents have previously spoken of their worries that the "integral" service would be scrapped for good.
Jos Knight, a Hythe resident who uses the ferry, is keen for it to remain once the repairs are completed.
She said: "Hythe Ferry and the train are an integral part of Hythe and the surrounding area, and it is always an exciting little trip for visiting families.
"I hope they manage to get the pontoon fixed."
