A popular market which spanned almost 170 years will return next month.
Eastleigh Market will finally make a comeback to the high street after being curtailed by the Covid-19 pandemic thanks to two friends.
Steph Harwood and Sarah Knight, both directors of Dream Empire Events, are excited to welcome more than 25 traders to their hometown.

“But, our ultimate goal has always been to bring back the Eastleigh Market, which has been in the town since 1852.
“We live in a historic market town – we even have a road called Market Street – but it sadly stopped after the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
“It never really opened again after the pandemic, and every time we did events on the precinct we would be asked if we had brought the market back.
“Earlier this year Sarah and I decided to look at bringing it back. Everyone is asking for it so there is clearly demand.
“We approached Eastleigh Borough Council and received permission.”
The market will officially return to the town on Thursday, October 3 and take place on the first Thursday of every month thereafter.
Steph explained that they are running the market on a monthly basis to see if there is demand for it.
However, there is the potential for it become more regular if it proves popular.
The market’s humble origins in 1852 revolved solely around cheese, but people can expect a more varied offering for its return.
“There will be baked goods, preserves and honey, a butcher, and fruit and veg, but we also want to put a spin on it as well,” Steph said, adding: “We will also have a focus on things you normally can’t find in the town centre to give people a reason to come here.”
Steph and Sarah will also host two Christmas markets in Eastleigh on December 7 and 21.
Steph said: “The response has been really, really positive.
“We really hope the people of Eastleigh will show up and support us.”
