A new academic year has begun once again, which has seen thousands of new students descend on Southampton.
Understandably many new students attending the University of Southampton and Solent University will be unfamiliar with the area and its nightlife.
For those looking to have a great night out, here are a few spots which have proven popular with students.
5 of the best spots for a student night out in Southampton
Sobar
Address: 98 Bevois Valley Road, Southampton SO14 0JZ
Sobar is considered by many undergraduates to be "the best of all Southampton student clubs" according to Skiddle.
It's a mixture of a bar and a club with loads of events including their So:Crazy Tuesdays where you can get £1 doubles.
Alongside that, it hosts some great music artists where attendees can make the most of Sobar's outdoor garden space.
The Edge
Address: Compton Walk, Southampton SO14 0BH
The Edge is Southampton's biggest and most popular LGBTQ+ club which offers a great night out.
It's a spot where there's always a lot going on with plenty of nostalgic club nights such as Y2K on Tuesdays.
Additionally, they have Bingo, Cabaret and Cocktails sessions on Fridays as well as karaoke.
Stag's
Address: Building 40 University Road, Southampton SO17 1BJ
If you're looking for a proper student bar then Stag's on the University of Southampton's Highfield Campus could work for you.
Happy Hour is from 4pm to 7pm (Monday to Thursday) and the bar also hosts karaoke nights every Thursday.
Jesters
Address: 114-118 Bevois Valley Road, Southampton SO14 0JZ
Jesters has certainly earned an infamous reputation over the years, with one person on Google Reviews describing it as the "grimmest and most amazing club you'll set your blurry vision upon".
It's effectively a student rite of passage in Southampton where if you're looking for cheap drinks and some somewhat decent music it'll serve you well.

The Hobbit Pub
Address: 134 Bevois Valley Road, Southampton SO14 0JZ
If you're looking for a great evening without going to a nightclub then The Hobbit Pub might work for you.
Unsurprisingly named after the J.R.R Tolkien book, the pub is a firm favourite among students and has the biggest beer garden in the city centre.
There's usually plenty going on here including live music, quizzes, bottomless brunches, DJ sets and more.
