Plans have been unveiled to repair a Grade II-listed building in the grounds of an 18th century mansion overlooking Fareham Creek.

The Granary, part of the Cams Hall Estate since 1872, is a former cart shed that has been converted into a two-storey office complex.

Now, the Connaught Trust is seeking consent to repair internal and external damage caused by water seeping into the building.

Bought by the Trust in 2021, The Granary has been vacant for the past 12 months.

A design and access statement that accompanies the application says: "The trust are looking to obtain Listed Building Consent for essential works required for the long-term preservation of the building.

"The works have been carefully planned to respect the building’s Grade II listed status, with all materials and methods chose to match or complement the original construction.

"The refurbishment and conservation works are also required to create an attractive environment for prospective tenants."

The Cams Hall Estate belonged to the Delme family for more than 100 years.

After the male heirs died out the estate had a succession of owners before being used by the Admiralty during the Second World War.

The main house fell into disrepair in the 1950s. Charles Church bought the property in 1962 and devised a restoration scheme. However, he was killed in a plane crash, resulting in further decay.

In 1991 the estate was bought by Strand Harbour Securities and Warings, who turned it into a business park employing more than 500 people.

A public notice outlining plans to refurbish The Granary has been published by Fareham Borough Council, which will decide the application.
