The Mayor of Southampton has unveiled a highly anticipated mosaic at a Southampton church.
Lord Mayor, Councillor Dave Shields attended Freemantle Baptist Church on Saturday, September 28 where he unveiled the artwork.
The mosaic was constructed under the expert guidance of Will Rosie who has many works of art situated around the city.
He came to the church's Sunflower Cafe on Wednesday afternoons and helped church members develop the design.
They then learnt how to cut the coloured glass tiles and glue them into position before it was placed on the wall.
The Lord Mayor also had a go, along with members of the community, when he opened the church's Community Day back in June.
The piece is now displayed on the side of the building in Testwood Road.
The words 'Love, Grow, Serve', are taken from the church's strapline, 'Growing in faith, Serving in love'.
It is hoped that the cheerful sunflowers will brighten the day of passers-by and reflect the welcome the church offers to everyone.
After the ceremony the minister of Freemantle Baptist, Revd. Linda Hayes, invited everybody into the hall for cream tea and cakes.
